What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word "wait"?
The term wait means to: stay where one is or delay action until a particular time or event.
Often times we bring a situation before God and he tells us to wait...naturally we interpret this as sitting around doing nothing, however waiting on God is demonstrated by active dependence and obedience to Him.
So then what do we do while we wait:
1. Watch
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. - Matthew 26:41
⦁ be awake and on guard
⦁ have a constant connection with God; seek Him
⦁ use God’s Word to remain watchful.
2. Acknowledge...that God is in control of all things
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: - Colossians 1:16
⦁ God has the power to do all he wills to do, in simpler terms God is able. - Ephesians 3:20
⦁ There is nothing two hard for God. - Jeremiah 32:17
⦁ With God all things are possible. - Luke 1:37
3. Invite....God to work on you while you wait on him.
Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. - Hebrews 10:22
⦁ Spend time praying (Luke 5:16) and reading the Word (2 Timothy 2:15).
⦁ Stay close to God through your worship
⦁ Serve others. - John 13:14-15
4. Trust....that God will fulfil his plans
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. - Proverbs 3:5-6
⦁ Cast all your care on him. - 1 Peter 5:6-7
⦁ All things work together for good to them that love God. - Romans 8:28
⦁ Listen to the holy spirit. - John 14:26
Waiting on God doesn't mean we're doing nothing, its about allowing God to do His thing.
