What is a promise?
a promises according to the oxford dictionary is a declaration or assurance that one will do something or that a particular thing will happen. (similar words may include but are not limited to...assurance, pledge, vow, guarantee, oath, agreement, commitment, covenant)
Your willingness to stand on something is dependable the sturdiness, firmness or durability of the object.
At some point we have made promises or have had promises made to us, in which we have failed to carry out.
What makes the difference when it comes to promises made by God?
Why can we be sure of being able to stand on the promises of God?
We can trust the promises of God because God does not promise idly, He is not a man that he should lie. (Numbers 23:19) God honors his words above his name(Psalm 138:2), God is immutable (Hebrews 6:17-18) meaning He is unchangeable. We can trust God promises because he is faithful. (Hebrews 10:23)
The bible is full of Gods promises and reminders that he is faithful.
Here are a few:
Isaiah 40:29 - He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
Philippians 4:19 - But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the thoughts that i think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
St John 14:2 - In my Fathers house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. i go to prepare a place for you.
Exodus 14:14 - The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
