Leadership in the home, community and church

“Leadership is the act of influencing/serving others out of Christ’s interests in their lives so they accomplish God’s purposes for and through them,” according to Bill Lawrence, president of Leader Formation International, at Bible.org.

Leadership in the home

God has appointed the man to lead in his household (Genesis 3:16) he is to be the leader, the head, one that ruleth his house well having his children in subjection (for if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) - 1 Timothy 3:5. Understand though that this is not a position of power but of responsibility. (Galatians 3:28)

⦁ A man should not be an authoritarian leader he should be leading his family as he submits to be body of Christ the leader of the church.

For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. -Ephesians 5:23

But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. - 1 Corinthians 11:3

⦁ It is also important to note that while the leadership role in the home falls on the man it is bigger than him and his family, ultimately leadership is about mission

⦁ The man is supposed to follow the path of a servant leader

And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: - Matthew 20:27

Leadership in the community

Community leaders are viewed as those who provides for our social wellbeing, they are to provide the right amount of inspiration, drive, and vision to compel us to live radical lives, community leaders are service providers (to fix, help, and aid perceived needs). John 13:5-17.

Leadership in the community is taking initiative for the benefit of others.

Leadership in the church

“Leadership is influence, nothing more nothing less.” (John Maxwell)

Leadership in the church is a process of influencing believers to use their God-given gifts toward a goal and purpose as led by the Holy Spirit.

The core of leadership however is servanthood (Mark 10:42-45)

As a leader of a church it is your responsibility to:

Restore a fallen brother - Galatians 6:1

Have a positive awareness if God - 1 Corinthians 2:15-16

Edify and encourage others - Romans 15:1-3

Ultimately, I believe that godly leadership is to boldly move toward the vision that God lays on a man’s heart as he seeks to daily follow him and bring him glory.
