Don't Open Your Mouth!

Sometimes it is best to keep your mouth shut. Talking too much can cause and create unnecessary troubles. "Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles." - Proverbs 21:23





Keep Your Mouth Shut in the Heat of Anger - "A quick-tempered person does foolish things,

and the one who devises evil schemes is hated." - Proverbs 14:17


Keep Your Mouth Shut When You Don't Have All the Facts - "To answer before listening—

that is folly and shame." - Proverbs 18:13


Keep Your Mouth Shut When You Haven't Verified the Story - "On the testimony of two or three witnesses a person is to be put to death, but no one is to be put to death on the testimony of only one witness." - Deuteronomy 17:6


Keep Your Mouth Shut if Your Words Will be a Poor Reflection of God - "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.

When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly." - 1 Peter 2:22-23


Keep Your Mouth Shut When You Are Tempted to Joke About Sin - "Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour." - Proverbs 14:9


Keep Your Mouth Shut When You Are Tempted to Lie - "Keep your mouth free of perversity;

keep corrupt talk far from your lips." - Proverbs 4:24


Keep Your Mouth Shut When its Time to Listen - "A wise son heeds his father’s instruction,

but a mocker does not respond to rebukes." - Proverbs 13:1


Keep Your Mouth Shut if You Already Said Something More Than Once - "A foolish child is a father’s ruin, and a quarrelsome wife is like the constant dripping of a leaky roof." - Proverbs 19:13


Keep Your Mouth Shut When You Are Tempted to Flatter a Wicked Person - "Whoever says to the guilty, “You are innocent,” will be cursed by peoples and denounced by nations." - Proverbs 24:24


Keep Your Mouth Shut When You Should be Working - "All hard work brings a profit,

but mere talk leads only to poverty." - Proverbs 14:23



The words you use daily can do a of good when used correctly but be warned they can do a lot more damage when used incorrectly.

There is wisdom in keeping your mouth shut, definitely not all the time but more often than most of do.


"Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell." - James 3: 5-6
