Armor of God

God is able to transform our thoughts, our spirits and one day he will transform our bodies but in the mean time Ephesians 6:11-17 tells us how we are to adorn ourselves.

Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places

Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. - Ephesians 6: 11-13

Ephesians 6:14a - Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth

The belt holds everything in place hence the reason it is the first part of the Armor, without a foundation of truth the whole Armor would fall apart. Therefore, Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; Luke 12:35 (always be ready).

To be girded with the truth is to know the word of God (Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. - John 8:31-32)

Ephesians 6:14b- and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

The breastplate of righteousness is the second piece to the Armor of God and serves has a protection to one the most important organ in the human body....the heart. The enemy will want to use the desires of your hearts against you therefore, Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. - Proverbs 4:23.

Putting on the breastplate of righteousness means to seek after God daily (Matthew 6:33), in doing so you align the desires of your heart with the word of God.

Ephesians 6:15 - And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

The gospel of peace refers to your day to day walk with Christ. The purpose of the shoes is to equip us to walk through our trials with the confidence that God will carry us through (Peace is one of the most powerful weapons a Christian can have, can you imagine the enemy kicking up a storm in your life and in the midst of your storm you are at peace). Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. - Psalm 119:165

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:7

Ephesians 6:16 - Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

The shield is vitally important to a soldier, it serves as a blanket of protection. Naturally the shield is the first line of defence (its like a reflex action for example if something is coming at you, you would immediately use your hands to block it). In the same way the shield of faith acts as the first line of defence against the fiery darts of the devil (doubt, fear etc...) For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. - 1 John 5:4

Ephesians 6:17 - And take the helmet of salvation,

The purpose of the helmet of salvation is to protect the head/thoughts, Romans 12:2 reminds us that we should not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of our mind.

Ephesians 6:17 and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

This part of the Amor doesn't need much explanation, the sword of the spirit as the scripture states is the word of God, therefore the word of God is your weapon.

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. - Hebrews 4:12

The very moment you decided to accept Christ, you entered a spiritual battlefield therefore you should always be clothe with the Armor of God. When we put on the whole Armor of God, we will be prepared for Satan’s attempts to attack us (with pride, envy, lust for forbidden pleasures, itching ears, disappointment, discouragement, doubt or division). All the pieces of the Armor can be found in a relationship with Jesus (Romans 13:14) and we create a relationship with Jesus by praying/communicating with him. After listing all parts the Armor Paul encourages us to pray Always (Ephesians 6:18)
